Shiba Inu (SHIB) describes itself in its “Woofpaper” as an experiment in decentralized spontaneous community building. The project will incorporate a decentralized exchange (DEX) called ShibaSwap where users can DIG for BONES or BURY their tokens, as well as swapping. The Shiba Inu community also includes an artist incubator that will explore how to bring the artistic Shiba movement into the non-fungible token (NFT) market. As part of a community effort, the project is using the Amazon Smile feature to collect donations to rescue real Shiba Inu dogs.

SHIB is an ERC-20 token nicknamed the “Dogecoin killer” and will be the first coin listed on ShibaSwap. Since its launch, the price of SHIB has seen some dramatic changes and if you want to know why then you’re in the right place. We’ve compiled everything you need to get a better understanding of Shiba Inu price – as well as the factors which influence it.

Shiba Inu Price History

Shiba Inu (SHIB) entered the market as a puppy in August 2020 trading at $0.000000001. Prices mostly fell for the first month, with SHIB finishing August with a price of about $0.0000000002. Prices doubled at the start of September but then declined again to $0.00000000014 by the end of the month.

October and November also showed a downward trajectory as SHIB price fell to 0.00000000006. Prices were maintained around this level in December, until SHIB rose slightly at the end of the year to the value of $0.00000000008, representing a 92% loss since the token’s launch.

SHIB made steady gains throughout most of January 2021, before a sudden surge took it up to $0.000000005 at the end of the month. The following day, SHIB peaked at $.000000003, and then fell back to $0.000000008 by the end of the month. A surge in the middle of March took prices up to $0.00000011, though they had returned to $0.000000057 by the end of the month.

Things began to heat up in April as SHIB rallied to a peak of $0.0000042. An 82% pullback then took prices to a low of $0.00000071 the following day, before SHIB recovered slightly to $0.00000202 at the end of the month. After a dip to $0.0000013 at the start of May, SHIB skyrocketed, surging 457% in a single day, until it reached its all-time high of $0.00003934 on 10 May 2021. At that point, Shiba Inu had a market cap of over $13.5 billion and had made year-to-date gains of over 50 million%. This wasn’t sustained for long, however, as SHIB price soon crashed to a low of $0.00000654 nine days later.

Analyzing Shiba Inu Price History

SHIB’s price history can be analyzed with many of the same techniques as stock market analysis. Technical analysis (TA) involves using various indicators while studying price charts in order to make sense of previous price movements. With SHIB, as with many other tradable assets, large price swings are often accompanied by spikes in trading volume, as a large number of users buy or sell their coins on exchanges.

Fundamental analysis (FA), on the other hand, looks at the finances and activities of a company, as well as the state of the wider market and economy. Shiba Inu appears to have good community engagement, but half of the SHIB supply was sent to Vitalik Buterin, which raises questions about the project’s fundamentals and how decentralized the coin really is.

Broader market trends have also played a role in SHIB’s price history. Its surges throughout April and May 2021 weren’t unique – many other major cryptocurrencies were setting all-time highs around this time, likely helped by Bitcoin, which has a significant market share and was experiencing a major bull run around that time.

The huge pullback in May 2021 was also common across the rest of the crypto market. Again, major losses for Bitcoin probably pulled down other coins with it. However, in the case of Shiba Inu, Vitalik Buterin’s revelation around that time that he was donating a significant portion of the SHIB supply to charity probably injected greater uncertainty into the SHIB market.

The overall price trend of SHIB tends to follow what’s known as a boom-and-bust cycle. This is a pattern in which a period of growing excitement leads to a surge in price before doubt and disillusionment set in and result in a crash.

Factors Influencing The Price of Shiba Inu (SHIB)

A variety of different things can affect the price of SHIB, including project news and developments, the flow of assets on exchanges, public sentiment, and emerging trends in the wider cryptocurrency and global economies.

SHIB was initially launched with a supply of 1 quadrillion tokens, half of which were put into Uniswap and the other half were sent to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. In May 2021, Buterin announced that he had burned 90% of his SHIB holdings, which has dramatically reduced the total supply of SHIB and should therefore increase its value. However, he also revealed that he would donate the rest to charity, which will mean a significant amount of new SHIB entering the market which could dilute the token’s price. A charity that received 50 trillion SHIB from Buterin has claimed it will dispose of the tokens responsibly so as not to hurt SHIB investors, but there will likely be greater FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) in the SHIB market in the short term.

Once the ShibaSwap DEX launches there will likely be greater demand for SHIB. Users will be able to BURY (stake) their SHIB to earn BONE – an upcoming token from the Shiba Inu team. 3% of all BONE per block will go to SHIB stakers, as well as 0.3% of all Ethereum swap transaction fees on the DEX. The platform will also let people DIG (farm) for BONE by providing SHIB liquidity. These potential rewards could incentivize more people to buy SHIB and participate in the DEX.

Future community engagement efforts and exchange listings could also have a positive effect on SHIB price.
