Estonia, May 8, 2024 – The cryptocurrency investment platform Kriptomat has registered as a Crypto Assets Service Provider (CASP) in France. This registration enables Kriptomat to extend its services, including custody of digital assets, crypto transactions, and crypto trading, to French customers. Kriptomat’s entry into France marks one of the first for Estonian fintech firms, heralding a new chapter in cross-border fintech collaboration.
“Becoming a crypto service provider in France is an important milestone for our company. Our goal has always been to provide a localised secure service to our customers and to comply with government regulations,” says Dejan Davidovic, co-founder and COO of Kriptomat. “France is certainly a fast-growing market in the European crypto economy, and this move will allow us to expand and grow in this important market segment.”
The Law on Business Growth and Transformation (“PACTE Act”) of 2019 introduced mandatory registration for CASPs with the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), France’s principal financial authority. This mandatory registration applies to CASPs established in or providing services in France and operating in the fields of crypto-assets custody, buying or selling crypto-assets, trading of crypto-assets, and the operation of a trading platform for crypto-assets.
Kriptomat’s attainment of CASP status ensures that French users can now benefit from a localised experience that includes customer support and service in the local language, funding with French banking partner, knowledge base and learning materials in French and a fully regulated and user-friendly platform for their crypto needs. As a registered crypto asset service provider, Kriptomat is subject to compliance with requirements related to the competence and good reputation of their executive managers and beneficial owners, as well as regulations on customer protection, anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.
Davidovic noted that France has done a good job in creating regulations that protect consumers and encourage reliable service providers to enter the market. “Clear regulations do not hinder but encourage market growth as well as innovation,” he added.
France’s growing prominence as a hub for Web3 innovation further underscores the significance of Kriptomat’s registration in the country. With a progressive regulatory landscape and a vibrant crypto community, France is poised to lead the charge in Europe’s crypto advancements, making it an ideal destination for Kriptomat’s growth efforts.
