What is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a play-to-earn game in which players send specialized monsters into battle against other players’ monsters. Game types supported within Splinterlands include quests, ranked play, and tournaments.
Splinterlands monsters, their summoners, and their attributes are represented by cards that are NFTs within the Splinterlands ecosystem. Players can trade NFTs, rent them to other players, or sell them for cryptocurrency at NFT marketplaces.
Every transaction in a Splinterlands game is recorded on the Hive blockchain.
Two cryptocurrencies power the Splinterlands ecosystem.
Splintershards (SPS) is a governance token that allows token holders to chart the future of the game, vote on future features, help plan new games, and contribute to discussions of Splinterlands policies.
Dark Energy Crystal (DEC) tokens work within Splinterlands as the in-game currency. DEC tokens can be traded for NFTs in the Splinterlands marketplace.

How to Buy Dark Splintershard (SPS) Tokens Now
1. Set up a MetaMask wallet
MetaMask is a crypto wallet that is implemented as a browser extension on PCs and an app on mobile devices. Visit metamask.io and select “Download” and you will receive the proper version for the device you are using. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. Create a wallet and password.
2. Connect your MetaMask wallet to the Binance Smart Chain
Under Settings, select Networks > Add Network. Add these details for the Binance Smart Chain manually:
- Mainnet
- Network Name: Smart Chain
- New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/
- ChainID: 56
- Symbol: BNB
- Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com
Save the new network.
If all went well, you will notice two things: The network has automatically been set to the Binance Smart Chain and the currency units in your wallet are no longer ETH, but BNB.
Use the Account Details menu on MetaMask to display the numeric code that is your MetaMask BNB wallet address.
3. Purchase BNB at Kriptomat
Use the tool on this page to purchase BNB. Use your MetaMask BNB wallet address as the recipient address. Visa and Mastercard support means you can complete this process in minutes.
4. Swap BNB for SPS or DEC at PancakeSwap
Navigate to PancakeSwap, press Connect, and select MetaMask.
Start by swapping some of your BNB for Wrapped BNB, or WBNB. There’s no transaction fee for this swap, but don’t swap your total BNB balance – you’ll need a little BNB to pay the transaction fee in the next step.
Now you can swap WBNB for SPS or DEC. This is why we advised you to save some BNB – to pay the transaction fees.
5. Add the SPS or DEC to your MetaMask wallet
The Splinterlands tokens are yours at this point, but they may not be visible in your MetaMask wallet until you add them manually. Visit coinmarketcap.com and locate the token contract address for SPS, then open MetaMask, select “Add token,” and paste in the address.
6. Play Splinterlands
Now that you have tokens, you can get full access to all the features of Splinterlands.
